YouTube increases upload limit

YouTube increases upload length to 15 min

For years now YouTube has limited the length of user videos to ten minutes.  Users trying to upload longer works were rejected and forced to cut videos into parts.  Today, YouTube announced that they are increasing the limit to 15 minutes.  This is great news for some with longer content like educational videos and webinars.  Of course, the Internet is still short attention span theater, so don’t let this loll you into rambling… videos still need to be short and to the point, it’s just nice to have the extra option.

Why Now?

Youtube gives the reason for the increase as the powerful rights identification software, which they have developed in recent years and use to police their site and remove content from users that is copyrighted.  This is something the studios and broadcast rights users are clearly happy with and since much of there content is over ten minutes one wonders how many more broadcast television and cable shows will end up on YouTube as a result
